It’s hard to look back on forty years.

It is difficult because remembrance is a very peculiar human feature.

There is something we like to think back on, there is something that beautifies or colors the current memory. In this modern spiritual competition, recollections are written one way or another. In today’s strange world, it’s hard to articulate anything, because today, from the recent or long past, everyone wants to evoke secret negatives destined for restoration in a different way. Nowadays, anyone, if you can, explains! By evoking fictional or real experiences, he proves the revelations of “purity,” “I already said that then,” or “I was born into the world as an incomprehensible prophet. Faces can change incredibly fast. The colored ones fade to gray, and the portraits illuminated by the spotlight show that they were wearing masks.

The album “You Can’t Be a Stranger in Your Country,” this 16-scratch litany, deserves a few accompanying sentences.

Because I remember a lot of things too! To the apartment on Városmajor Street, where a very dear friend of mine, with whom we were still playing tennis at the time, corrected and wrote a few lines on our first music album, or when I recommended an unknown singer for a “special” recording and a composer I respected at the time. These memories are now music history documents, but because the human brain is selective, it just wants to remember what it wants. Others will surely leave other marks on the pages of their own internal chronicle.

It is almost impossible to review forty years, while the Hungarian press, the Hungarian cultural policy, the Hungarian visual media, as well as the public thinking about its forgetfulness and the tastes of the actors have often changed. In forty years, many have turned up in the musical formations of the Cormorant. Many gave it to the common, but many also took some “survival” ammunition with them in their backpacks. Who uses it better, who uses it less.

For example, there was someone who, out of brotherly love and under the influence of the historical and art-historical knowledge nurtured by their parents, embarked on a special path, involuntarily following the everyday life of the band.

In 1985, he demolished a huge prison wall at the National Museum, then created a legend that still lives on King’s Hill. It was raised or dragged by all current political formations, but in the meantime remained a simple, thinking man, the hero of the “folk tales” of our time. The Cormorant owes him his special Christmas album, the apotheosis of the Conquest, a few lines from the moving film about the Holy Crown - which touches many - is now almost a public treasure: Whoever distributes his heart will be the hope.

He remained the eternal hope of the silent majority.

Others have accompanied the Cormorant on its journey for the past forty years. Internationally renowned filmmakers, poets, sculptors, painters, singers, actors, musicians, special - tolerated - artists, journalists, television, radio professionals, sound engineers, technicians (roads) and many tens or hundreds of thousands of “understanding” ears in Hungary and beyond .

The Cormorant's musical revolution was also their personal uprising, because they considered their country, their nation, to be their own. Because they felt in the depths of their hearts and souls, they knew that: You cannot be a stranger in your country.

Many have become strangers in their own country, many think differently, feel differently while listening to a song. They find it difficult to accommodate a scratched litany.

The world is changing much faster than we ever thought. The “re-education” of humanity is ongoing. Everything can be sold in the market these days. There is no value meter, no realistic litmus paper. Robbery and the exploitation of souls are practically free.

The Cormorant remained a “free team” in this confusing world. For a small group of musicians and singers, where a Vojvodina, a Transylvanian, a Highlander, or a Hungarian living on the map after the Trianon decision, feels and feels similarly. Overriding, in a nutshell, evaluations that can be considered professions, perhaps this is the true, moral, musical revolution of the Cormorant.

There are some things I am reluctant to remember from the last forty years. But my memory is not as selective as that of many of my contemporaries. There was everything: collapse, deception, the illusion of lifelong friendships, success, failure, scam, unexpected helping hand, betrayal, naive love, evaporating hatred, sudden anger, and late remorse.

One thing is for sure: God’s finger touched everyone who played or listened to the band’s songs and music. Forty years before 2016, a musical revolution began that he will not remember, will not write about, the survivor of modern, computer-raised, genetically engineered posterity, bright-eyed, worthy of a better fortune. Whoever, once, falls in love, is not looking for emotions on the Internet, maps, who is not looking for the meaning of “faith” from the smart phone, whose red and white-green flag, the nation, the home “words” something touches his soul.

Until then, scientists have not established that such terms do not even exist. It’s just a fiction that only makes slavery and world domination efforts more difficult!

I recommend these few, few-minute songs to my late father (György Koltay, 1916), my mother, my family, my eternal friend: Valter Fülöp (1972-2014), who sent his last poem from his deathbed to the band. To the all-time musicians of the Cormorant who are among us, and to those who are already playing in a band in heaven, and to many of my compatriots who love, understand, or understand our songs and who will never be strangers in their homeland.

In recent years, members of the Kormorán have been writing modern, special music that continues to feed on the archaic folk music of the Carpathian Basin and, in some places, the Balkans, and, very importantly, the band also shows the way to the younger generation with their lyrics presenting the fate of the Hungarians: it is possible to play national rock music, which is a demanding, retaining force.

We are born, we grow up, we try all our lives. We try to furnish our lives well, comfortably and perhaps meaningfully. We learn good, we learn bad. We work because we have to live. We work because we want to express our world. Moreover, we want to change it, make it more beautiful, better. In the ’60s of the last century (but strange to say this), world-conscious people believed - rhyming with the intentions of the previous generation - that we would turn the whole world for tomorrow. Well, it got turbulent around us, but the world didn’t get any better. Today they are just as rich and poor, life is as precarious, lying and hypocritical as it used to be. They say it is better for us then, because there is no war today, there is peace. Yes, we are a peaceful generation, avoided by bombs for the time being (falling a lot elsewhere), but all the more destructive to our feelings, our thoughts, perhaps our whole being, is the daily spiritual and spiritual destruction that weakens us from within like a worm, and then the first wind knocks us off our feet. Our relationships, our friendships, our loves, our families fall apart so that with a community that once fell on its atoms, we can start what the current powers want to do with us. To despise the former dreamers of being submissive, vulnerable, is to do with us, as a weak-willed, unsupervised and immoral living being, what is in their best interests. The goal is to push us into the line of spiritual slavery, since we are already in the physical sense. We work for the slaveholder, keeping us at the subsistence level so we can robotize the next day as well. And we don't care about tomorrow, the things of the world, they will settle for us, on our behalf. This is modern democracy, more precisely, it has become such in the 21st century. century. The minority decides what is good for you, me, the majority, what to love. The bamboo crowd stuffs her belly in front of the TV, living from tomorrow to the moment she has given up in her soul. But that’s not true either, since he didn’t give up, as he no longer knows what he would have to keep in order to have something to give up. Well, that’s what this imaginary film is about, which may or may not come true. Its protagonist is a world-conscious young girl who receives her memoirs from her father before her death. Which is not an ordinary biography, but a string of descriptions of events, events, thoughts of people, friends, peers. A compilation whose episodes the writer had collected all his life because he felt that the combination of them accurately expressed the age, the relationships between people.
he wants to know the venues of the events, so all that was of value to his father. He walks in Transylvania, in the Highlands, gets to Vojvodina, gets to know Transcarpathia, and of course discovers the little Hungary he knew he knew. This story is maybe mine, maybe a little different, for all those who have gone through the past decades. With broken parts of the country, broken relationships, little heroism and big betrayals, big loves and little happiness.
Finally, a question. Is this a sad movie? The answer is a clear no. This film is about love, understanding, a lifelong struggle of konok, the intention to change the world. About the only meaningful human example worth living for. Because the world can be made more beautiful and better. Even if from a bottom view this seems hopeless. So get up, dear musician, open your heart, your soul, to see from there from above, through your dreams, you see: there is hope.

Gergely Koltay celebrated his 60th birthday on June 2, 2012 at a concert at the Urania National Film Theater. The new Kormorán album is perhaps one of the band’s most mature music albums. The use of the names of Imre Vadkerti from the Highlands and Nóra Fehér from Vojvodina is a pun, but it also has a deeper symbolic content. We live in a wild garden, but we still have to stay clean in this chaotic world, that is, white.
What makes the album special is Antoni Arnold’s guitar playing. The rhythm section consists of Tamás Zsoldos (bass guitar) and Sándor Herpai (drums), as they have been playing together in the Barbaro ensemble for several years. Gergely Koltay and István Szűts record the songs, supplemented by Nóra Fehér. At the end of the album, Károly Gesztesi contributes a prose text to the commemoration of Albert Wass Czegei. As the founder of the 36-year-old band stated in a newspaper, “the band represents the whole Hungarians in a strange way, as a musician from Vojvodina and a musician from Transylvania are on stage”, and perhaps this is why the new album is special. Vadkert in White is the band's 152nd album, which is a real record in Hungarian music life.

Through the struggle between Good and Evil, the rock opera seeks the answer to the question of what human intentions and moral values ​​can be contrasted with the processes aimed at the spiritual, moral crippling of humanity in our time. The Crucified’s response is that only the power of love and forgiveness represented by the Master can bring light into our lives and drive out the darkness of Mammon’s rule. The piece draws attention to the fact that a nation that has lost its roots, its identity, can only realize itself, it can change the world only if it finds its way back to its original values, to the spiritual-thought-historical pillars without which it drifts in uncertainty. In 2005, the production crossed the Trianon border for its Transylvanian performance in a sacred location at the Csíksomlyó triple altar.

This album is dedicated to that transylvanian poet and writer, Count Czegei Albert Wass, whose life work is as great as the other more famous authors’ like Áron Tamási, József Nyírő, Sándor Reményik, Mór Jókai… Album was recorded at Gödöllő, on „the Day of Hungarian Culture”, 26 June 2004. You can listen to his most beautiful and well-known poems and short novels (Dalol a honvágy, A bújdosó imája, Fenyő a hegytetőn, A láthatatlan lobogó, Üzenet haza…) performed by the Kormorán and famous Hungarian actors and singers like Enikő Détár, Anna Götz, József Kalapács, Pál Oberfrank, Károly Rékasi, Roland Selmeczi, Imre Sipos, Klári Varga and Miklós Varga. On this album Kormorán band adapted a short novel by Gyula Hernádi. The tragic love story can be heard on the beginning of the album by actor, Pál Oberfrank, and also at the end of the CD by Gyula Hernádi, the author itself. The music is mostly instrumental, only the songs ’Most és mindörökké’, ’Útszéli krisztusok’ and ’Lámpás emberek’ contain vocals. The words of Gergely Koltay are certainly inspirated by the mentioned story. Many folk instruments – like töröksíp or fiddle - are used on this long-awaited album, so it sounds like Kormorán in the seventies, when the band reached their first success in foreign countries. Edit Farkasinszky also appears on this album.

You can listen to his most beautiful and well-known poems and short novels (Dalol a honvágy, A bújdosó imája, Fenyő a hegytetőn, A láthatatlan lobogó, Üzenet haza…) performed by the Kormorán and famous Hungarian actors and singers like Enikő Détár, Anna Götz, József Kalapács, Pál Oberfrank, Károly Rékasi, Roland Selmeczi, Imre Sipos, Klári Varga and Miklós Varga. There are a few archive recordings on the album and two poems from Sándor Reményik and Alajos Kannás.

The premiere of the Hungarian Passion took place on June 24, 2000, on the Hungarian Freedom Day, in Gödöllő. Kormorán musicalized the poems and thoughts of Sándor Reményik, Albert Wass, Mihály Babits, Mari Jászai, Endre Ady, Count Gyula Andrássy, Count Albert Apponyi, Attila József, Gyula Illyés, József Antall, László Tőkés, Gyula Somogyváry, Sándor Márai, Károly Kós, Sándor Hevesi.

There is no more past-There will not be a future.

The one – time prophet found the two adequate lines which describe the end of the eighties. We still had the reflex – to erect memorials, we had an internal will to tell something characteristic of us – only of us. So it was in 1988.

Is the legend living? The Kormoran’s legend. We live in an other world, songs sing of something else, melodies speaks of something different, reality forces everybody into a different situation. We are devoured – there is no time for songs, there is no time for the “dead peacock”, there is no time for holy chants – the hussars‘ time is over.

What comes then? Who knows? The next prophet does.
Remember! There was a world wich came to an end when the Kormoran had played his songs at the final party in the Vár Klub (Club of Castle) and closed the ‘Youth Park’ together with the bands Bikini and the Beatrice. Then , our youth was also over, it was OUR BLOODLESS WAR.
