The theme of our album is based on free variability, which is abundant in folk music but has received little attention so far. Various forms of improvisation can be observed not only in pastoral tradition, but also in instrumental peasant music and singing culture in general.
The special image of the Hungarian Band is given by these unique solutions that avoid self-repetition, which are, of course, rooted in the decorations and editing techniques of different regions.
One of the most beautiful symbols of this musical freedom is the outlaw. Outlaws are bachelors who protect their access to the world with the unbreakable freedom of their souls. The title of our album also refers to this, as the word “outlaw” that pops up as the main motif is uttered twelve times in the songs. Our goal is not to evoke snapshots of the past, but to express ourselves beyond bounds in the musical mother tongue we inherited from our old masters.
